Now We Can Sing “Now We Can Sing” is a moving and inspiring musical event centering on music that was banned to Jewish musicians by the Nazis in 1930’s Germany. It follows these musical artists through that dreadful era as they ultimately migrate to a new land and establish new lives. Flutist Barbara Siesel and singer, songwriter and storyteller Keith Torgan, create the times through the music of Bach, Schumann, Hindemith, Copland, and Gershwin as well as through the cabaret songs of Frederick Hollaender. In this universal work, mastery, passion and self expression transcend the isolation of hatred, racism and intolerance.

Life in the Middle Ages Life in the Middle Ages is about family, friends, work, spare time, no time, doing things you’d forgotten to do and doing things you realize it might not be too late to do. Torgan has been creating children’s music for years – but let’s face it – this is a guy who’s been through it all – and his one-person musical-dramedy will make you laugh, cry, reflect and above all remember to appreciate life. Keith performs with his wife, world-class flutist, Barbara Siesel, who enhances every performance with her extraordinary and heartfelt virtuosity.

Workshops & Masterclasses

My Story, My Song: a workshop in creativity through songwriting Everybody loves songs but most people have never made one up themselves. Songwriting can be as natural as breathing … or humming – and since we all have plenty to talk about - or should we say sing about - this is a no-brainer! In this workshop we learn about the basics of song form and improvising melodies but more importantly we discover all kinds of exciting ways to access our creative impulses and turn them into song! Free-writing exercises, group collaborations, guided meditations and sensory exercises are all part of this inspiring and delightful workshop. Why is it called “My Story, My Song”? –Because it’s the things in our life – the experiences that are central to our everyday existence, that fuel the creative process and serve as the centerpiece to this inspiring experience in personal creativity.

Master Classes with Barbara Siesel Barbara will work exclusively with school band and orchestra students on both technique and repertoire. Students will learn tone production, breathing, hand and body position, etc., all in relation to music they are working on. She will specifically work with music students on their school music and how to play well in a section, concentrating on intonation, blending, practicing and more. Advanced students can bring music they are studying for statewide competition or their recitals and private lessons.
